A patents importance can be expressed by including an additional weighting value. Simply follow the patent number with a column and then the weighting value (a default value of 1 is used if no weight is found).

Below are two valid input examples (the first and last patents have weightings of 2 and 3.1 respectively):

  EP1186609:2,US5123456,US6123456:3.1

or

  EP1186609:2
  US5123456
  US6123456:3.1


This flexibility means it is easy to copy a patent number list straight from a spreadsheet.
