Use Quick Search to search by number, date, invention title, applicant, inventor, agent, application status, first IPC mark, or abstract text.
Whatever you type will be searched for in each of the following fields simultaneously, and matches be picked up in any of the following fields: Australian Application/Patent Number, Provisional Number, Serial Number (Patent Number), PCT Number, WIPO Number, Invention Title, Inventor Name, Applicant Name and Agent Name, Application status, Filing date, Earliest priority date, First IPC mark.
Abstract text will only be searched if the Include abstract text check box below the search input box is checked.
If you need finer control, use the Structured or Advanced searches.
By default search words are ANDed together, that is, all the words in your search must be found in order for an application to appear in your results list.
You can search for "exact phrases" by enclosing the phrase in quotation marks. You can also separate words with the OR operator.

You start a search by entering a patent number you are interested in eg:

This becomes the ‘focus patent’ of the search.
Results
The network shows all patents directly connected to the entered patent.

Its connections are shown as curves, and the patent is semi-transparent, so we refer to as a 'ghost patent'. The thickness of the line shows how similar the two connected patents are. The size of a dot shows how important the patent is.
Patent Summary Box
Selecting a patent with your mouse opens a patent summary box.

Rating a patent adds the patent to the table on the right, which can be downloaded to Excel.
Opens a window with further information about the patent.
Refocus the patent network onto this patent.The number displays how many more patents will be shown if you do this. Click here to add your own comments for future reference. Hide this patent from view, useful for removing unwanted patents.
Note: The top menu bar also contains a useful unhide button.
Shows the relative importance of the patent (AmberScore), based on its citation connections.
Filters help you find relevant patents
Click and adjust the sliders to filter your results.

Limits the displayed patents to those with a filing year within the selected year range. Similarity filter
Limits the displayed patents to the most similar, i.e setting the filter to 10% will only show the most similar 10% of patents connected to the focus patent. Importance filter
Limits the displayed patents to the most important, i.e.: setting the filter to 10% will only show the most important 10% of patents connected to the focus patent. Text highlighter
Adds a green circle to patents containing nominated text in the patent title, owner, patent number or user comment.

AmberScope was developed to apply the principles of Network Patent Analysis (NPA) to patent searching, or what we call Network Patent Searching.
Members of the AmberScope development team are very experienced with patent searching, recognised the limitations of current search processes, and wanted to develop a better way of searching for patents.
AmberScope is a product of Ambercite, which was established in 2010 to commercialise NPA, and which combines the unique perspectives of a network analyst, data miners, software engineers and IP law firm Griffith Hack.
